The upgrade to a DVR (which I can't live without) was $13 a month and a HD DVR was $23. I opted for the regular DVR. It still used the same remote and power cord which meant the receiver itself was the only thing that had to be unplugged.
Unless you know where the Comcast station is near you, you will need to call them at 1-800-Comcast to find out. You will need to drive your sorry little receiver over there and they will switch you for the receiver you really wanted. Be ready to wait when you get there. The Comcast station is set up like the DMV. You will have to take a number and sit until they are good and ready for you.
When you get home plug the new receiver in and turn it on. Make sure the TV is on as well. Then call the digital receiver activation line at 1-866-367-2258. Wait for the prompt and press option 1 to activate your receiver. Then enter your 10 digit phone number associated with your account.
A wonderful Customer Service Representative will come on the line and will make sure you have your TV and receiver on. Once you do she will press the magical red button of goodness that bestows the exceptional programming upon you, and you will smile. She will have you go to a channel in your package to test it out and then she will thank you for your time.
