Wells Fargo & Co was founded in 1852 by Henry Wells and William Fargo to provide banking and express services in California. The bank began its operation in the gold rush port and opened their offices in emerging cities and mining camps located in the West. The present Wells Fargo is a result of a merger between the original Wells Fargo and the Minneapolis based Norwest Corporation in 1998. Two major banks in the US, Century Bank and Wachovia Corporation were acquired by Wells Fargo in 2008.
