Wells Fargo History
Wells Fargo has a long history of more than 150 years and it has been involved in major events that occurred in America's history. Wells Fargo & Co was founded in 1852 by Henry Wells and William Fargo to provide banking and express services in California. During its initial period, the company provided banking services like buying gold, selling paper bank drafts and express services like fast delivery of gold and other valuable items.
The bank began its operation in the gold rush port and opened their offices in emerging cities and mining camps located in the West. During the booming economy of 1850s Wells Fargo built a strong reputation of trust and earned everlasting fame in 1860s. The present Wells Fargo is a result of a merger between the original Wells Fargo and the Minneapolis based Norwest Corporation in 1998. Two major banks in the US, Century Bank and Wachovia Corporation were acquired by Wells Fargo in 2008.
